Village Grind

village grind

So my kid got in pretty serious trouble this week and consequently was grounded to her room with punishment of severe homework and study. After 5 hours of solid work I thought we both needed a bite to eat and I really wanted to try to even the score on Mancala with her. Last time we ate together at the Village Grind she taught me how to play this charming little game and she showed no mercy and beat my socks off! (little stinker)

We weren’t the only ones playing games and eating at the Grind, which, by the way is the only place in Yreka to get free Wifi (that I know of). Seems to be the place to hang on a Saturday afternoon. This is the perfect place for kids young and old. The Village Grind started as a ‘quesadilla’ place. It has expanded from it’s original beginnings and now offers great wraps and salads along with fresh baked goodies, coffee drinks and smoothies. The building was once a candy shop, as I’ve been told, and has this incredible tin ceiling ornately painted in pastels that remind me of Easter.

My daughter’s favorite - Pizzadilla (no veggies of course). My favorite - Southwest Chicken Wrap, but the Greek Salad is really good too, oh! and the Turkey Pesto Panini is really good…. hmmm, hard to pick a favorite I guess.

Well, I still could not beat her at Mancala (I’m sure she cheats!) “More homework for you!” spoken like the true ‘nazi mom’ that I am. But we did get a great lunch!

Thanks Markay!

Thanks to our great customers for making our first year super! I just want to let you know we have live music every Saturday from 9:30 to 11am. The Celtic Cats have a great little band that plays the guitar, banjo, I think I saw a recorder and an accordian too. It’s fun, come join us! I would also like to get something going for at least one Friday in the month, I have been looking for someone who plays jazz or christian music, open mike or something, we could open for a few hours, have coffee and dessert. Let me know if you or someone you know is interested!

A favorite place of ours for having a cup of tea and a “goodie”, or a nice sandwich at lunch!

You are right, the only place in Yreka for free Wifi! Thanks!

It is great to have a coffeehouse type place here in Yreka where you don’t have to feel you need to gulp down your food and get up and leave! Nice to be able to “hang out”. Besides, they have sold our book there! :P

Hi,
I’m so glad you find the Village grind a great place. When we opened the place, it took allot of work. The place was a wreck. We renovated the building as best we could, and the Village Grind turned out pretty cute. The menu also included sandwiches wraps soups and salads. The coffee and espresso, and espresso drink were the best in the county, if not the state. A talent I have passed, along with the quesadilla recipes, to Markay. She’s doing a great job, hasn’t changed it much. Although the menu is much larger.
It was just my husband and I running the shop, so we chose to keep the menu small. We now have a Village Grind in Redding. Our third, and I think our last. The first is in Wrightwood Ca. it’s been there for eight years now. We plan on passing this one on to a person who will take it, add to it make it better, keep it a great place to relax, eat and have great coffee. Just like Markay in Yreka has done, and Ed in Wrightwood. Have fun, if you see Markay say Hi for me. Thanks for your time.

Hey Liz, I didn’t know you guys opened another Village Grind. We’ll stop in next time we’re in Redding - So Cool! That’s why we’ve missed seeing you and your husband, “Eric Clapton” around town:)
