Living in a small town is a truly unique experience. I love walking down the sidewalk and waving to a familiar face in a passing car waving back. It’s true joy because it gives you a sense of home, a sense of worth and adds value to your day.
Thursday night was Awana Awards night at our corner baptist church. As I watched those youngsters go up to receive that redeeming piece of paper or ribbon that encouraged them to know they were special I was reminded again about the joys of a small community. The joys of ‘real’ people. The people of our community with all of their own obstacles, problems and challenges still finding the time to care for our little ones and make each of them feel special. Man, this is the real deal! What it’s all about - it’s really all about people! Big, little, young, old, funny, shy, cranky, homely, pretty, rich and poor.

It seems like I’ve had a rare opportunity to see the full spectrum of these people the past week and I’m left with the realization that each and every one has worth, value and adds to my sense of home - in Siskiyou County.
