I noticed the little announcement in the newspaper the other day about a Stock Car Show and Play Day.
I didn’t really know what this event was about, but they mentioned hot dogs so I was pretty much set on going. I’m not a huge hot dog fan, but there is something about having a hot dog at one of our corny small town events that just makes a hot dog taste so much better. It’s all about the little things! And the event wasn’t that corny. It was fun!

While I was there I was fortunate enough to run into Gene Pellizzer, the vice president of the Siskiyou Motor Speedway. He told me about the car show and the Siskiyou Motor Speedway.
The races start up April 5th - gates open at 2pm. Did you know that you can have your kid’s birthday party at the speedway? Well, you can.
Gene introduced me to Billy Jasmer, president of the group who continued to ‘enlighten’ me about the Siskiyou Motor Speedway.

Billy shared that he was passionate about this organization because he had personally lost too many friends to street racing. Our local race track provides people a controlled setting to speed to their hearts content! He is especially an advocate for youngsters who want to race. The idea is to have a setting for young people to get their ‘racing fix’ without getting in trouble with the law or worse, crashing on the streets and getting hurt or hurting others. They may even keep up with racing into adulthood. One fellow at this gathering said he’d been racing here since 1979! Siskiyou Motor Speedway even has a racing class especially designated for kids as young as 14 year olds! These kids don’t even have drivers licenses but they can race!
I had no idea that this group had such a redeemable overriding philosophy about their sport and community. See what I learned just because I wanted a cheap lunch!? The hot dog was GREAT by the way!

Best in Show!
I arrived just in time to hear the announcement of the Best of Show and see the ‘parade’ of race cars escorted by YPD drive to the race track.
Check out the Siskiyou Motor Speedway website here for all the information you may need to race or attend including schedule and directions to the track. Vrooom vrooom! Yea for race cars!
