Dos Amigos

I had a really difficult decision this past weekend while visiting Mt. Shasta. When lunchtime rolled around there is this thing in me that desperately wants to go to Poncho and Lefkowitzs’ for a paper boat of nachos, also known as the Works. The desire is so strong, it was all I could do to leave town without those nachos. But, I was dead set on trying someplace different and had been told about Dos Amigos in Weed. This fellow said they had really good, authentic Mexican food. So we left Mt. Shasta and pulled off in Weed.

The restaurant didn’t look like anything special. Actually, it was somewhat confusing just finding the front door. We sat, perused the menu and ordered - the kid just ordered her usual bean and cheese burrito and since I really wanted that authentic taste, I ordered the Taco al Carbon (Tacos made with marinated, chopped skirt steak).

This is definitely the thing to order! You get three simple tacos with skirt steak, cilantro, jalapeƱo and topped with cotija cheese. Perfect! The other thing is that their rice is great! I’m kind of a rice snob when it comes to Mexican food. Simple, authentic rice is the way to go. I get so mad when a Mexican restaurant ruins the rice with wacky stuff like frozen peas! Yuk! Dos Amigos serves that perfect simple rice with great flavor and is the perfect compliment to a great taco.

As far as being authentic Mexican food….. I’m not sure. I don’t think the owners originated from Mexico if I had to guess - they’re last name is Chang. I don’t really care though. Lunch was great!
