Shasta Salute to America Motorcycle Rally-Cancelled

The sudden cancellation of the Shasta Salute to America Motorcycle Rally has been quite the buzz in Yreka over the past couple weeks.

In a closed door session, the city council was urged by Chief of Police, Brian Bowles, not to allow a liquor license for this event. This decision by the city, along with other obstacles that were inflicted on the motor cycle rally organizers led to the organizers cancelling the rally all together.

The Siskiyou Daily news has a poll on their website asking whether you support the city’s decision or whether you think they should reconsider. At last check the vote was 65% in favor of reconsidering the decision and 35% supporting the decision the city made.

Based on this poll and the letters to the editor that have been published over the weeks, this turn of events could by the catalyst for change in the city council that many people have been waiting for. People are really steamed up about this and we have local elections right around the corner! Get out and vote!

As the promotors for the Shasta Salute to America Motorcycle Rally we have greatly appreciated the many friends we made during our many travels to Yreka. It has saddened us that a small group of people could cause the demise of this great event with no notification to the general population of the town that pays their wages. We would like to announce that the town of Tulelake has contacted us and we have agreed to move the rally to Tulelake. We sincerely hope that what has occured is a catalyst for change in your community.

Hi y’all…word is that the that the city fathers are now willing to reverse their ruling. That’s fine. We made too many friends in Yreka just to say, “oh well…there goes that one.” How about giving all those involved in saying such an emphatic “no” to us in Round 1 an opportunity to reverse their positions? (Everyone deserves a fresh start.) We have always wanted to do bookend events- one in late Spring to kick off the riding season & one over Labor Day. We will come back if they all invite us the way they should have to begin with. A late May early June event at the Siskiyou Golden Fairgrounds would still be awesome. By inviting us back the right way, we will have time to dial everything in. As a final thought; there’s way too much back biting & he said she said in Yreka. The individuals in positions of power need to get on the same team with each other if there is ever going to be effective plans for positive change. All of ‘em ought to get to church together & work it out so the citizens & businesses can move forward.

Ps: Y’all ought to think twice before you knock the Sheriff. Anyone think they can do a better job? I think he would be impossible to replace - same applies to Murphy & Dean. Y’all better appreciate who these men are & what they wanted to bring to your town & the county. They don’t need all this crap going on. How would you feel if you were in their shoes? You’re all lucky they ride Harleys so they can get away from all the pettiness & stress they have to deal with….wake up!

Wings2fly, Congrats on getting a new venue. I hope it all works out in Tulelake.

EZJ, I’m a little confused about your comments. I’ve not heard that the city has given any consideration to changing their mind about their decisions. I think the newspaper was just running a poll as a matter of public interest. However, I could be wrong….

conversation with local city council member:

Me: after the research that was done by chief
Bowles that found these biker rallys to be a danger to our community, could i see these reports:

council member: oh, no. not possible. our city attorney said we cannot make them public, because it may bring a lawsuit against the city.

Me: but if they’re true, what damage can they cause?

Council member: we have to be careful.

Me: here’s just one more thing that creates a feeling of separation between the business community that you SERVE. How many times can you make these decisions behind closed doors before we give up, or rebel. I WILL NOT GIVE UP. NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY TO BREAK MY SPIRIT.

vote the old ones out, and put in some new council members.
I am calling for release of the chief’s reports, so we can be informed as well as a select few…. unless the reports are a lie, of course.

Wow Bill, that was an interesting conversation! I’m glad you are determined to not give up. Hang in there!! and vote!!!!
