Yreka Greenway Project

I passed by this area along the Yreka Creek on Oberlin road the other day and noticed an area had been cleared and lined with big boulders and a sign has been erected. I don’t know anything more than that, but it seems as though some actual progress is being made on the Greenway Project. How exciting! Someone is doing something! Did you hear me? Someone is doing something! Yah Hoo!!!! It’s a sign of hope! Hope for a better Yreka. I love progress! If anyone has the 411 on these goings ons, please let us know!

Hi Deb, this project has been going on for some time now and will encompass Yreka Creek from the North exit of I-5 to the South exit. The project will address flood control issues, have a walkway all along the creek and will put back native plants in as well.
This project will have a very positive effect on the community in that it will be a tourist magnet, effect the flooding of the creek in a very healthy way and address our Gold mining history with interpretive centers along the creek route.
I had the opportunity to do a walk through on the creek last winter with some of the Landscape architects and was impressed with their ideas and their willingness to listen and solicit local input.
This is a wonderful project that will have a lasting effect on this community.
Thanks
