Long Gulch Farm

Do you know where your food comes from? When you go to the market do you ever check the label to see where that apple or bell pepper came from? Does is come from Hawkinsville? Maybe it should….

Local produce will be becoming more and more popular with inflation on the rise. Long Gulch Farm is local!! Yea!!! We went out to Hawkinsville to visit Long Gulch Farm this weekend because they were having a plant sale.

After a vacation in Siskiyou County this young family, Jonathan & Tiffany Paine decided to move here. They came from Colorado and settled in a great little farm house in Hawkinsville, red barns and all! They are organic farmers and bring their crops to the Montague Farmer’s Market. Today they were having a plant sale right on their property. They have a charming little set up! The red out buildings are the perfect touch!

We got some great plants and starts! They had stuff that you just don’t find at the nurseries, like Orange Thyme! I’d never even heard of that before! We also picked up some heirloom tomatoes and some other interesting herbs and vegetables. Tiffany showed us their garden. They had rows of crops coming up - spinach, peas, squash - then she let us peak under the shade cloth to see some beautiful lettuce that’s just ready to harvest. Who knew there was a little garden of eden in Hawkinsville!?

Jonathan and Tiffany are really nice, down to earth kids with a vision of providing local, organic produce to the community. We need people like this! People with a passion for what they do and a willingness to do do the hard work that most of us aren’t able or willing to do to. Organic farming is really hard work! I really hope you’ll support one of our local growers whether it’s at the Montague Farmers Market or when they have sales at their farm.
