So I’ve covered all the nursery and garden centers in the immediate Yreka area with one exception - Honest Johns Landscaping.
Only a few years ago John Kennedy had a small landscape yard on South Main Street just behind Gold Rush Burgers. Across the street and up the way a little was a large vacant lot, unused, unloved, unsightly. John bought it, cleaned it up, graded it, cleared it, saved the large trees, moved in and created what is now the best place to get any hardscape material in the county.
They’ve got every kind of rock, gravel, paver, fountain, pond, or landscaping material you could think of.
My favorite thing is this landmark water feature centered in the front of the lot that welcomes customers and passer-bys alike. It’s massive and a stunning example of what John and his crew could do in your yard. Yea, I know, “Ka Ching!” But you can do a small water feature if this seems out of your budget.
We’ve bought plenty of gravel and pavers from Honest Johns and have always gotten great service - which sadly is sometimes a rare thing in Yreka particularly at the level John’s crew delivers it. Really refreshing!
I think these guys really like what they do. The day I stopped in they had just finished creating this little gem of a water feature. The water bubbles out of the top of a rock. The rock is just sitting there on the gravel (the reservoir is buried under the gravel). You’d of thought Moses had just been there and struck the rock! It’s so natural, as if the rock had sprung forth a spring from it’s center. They were so proud of their creation, with good reason! It was so cool!!!
I really just stopped in take a few pictures so I could include Honest Johns in the whole ‘gardening’ theme here at Siskiyoutopia, but I was thrilled to find my favorite brand of gloves and couldn’t leave without a new pair. These are the best garden gloves EVER!!! You will never use anything else once you’ve had a pair of Atlas gloves and they’re harder to find than you’d think!
Anyways, John’s worked really hard to create a great business in Yreka. He has an admirable entrepreneurial spirit. Few business people think big enough or do what they love in a big enough way to make it big. Nice work Honest John!
