Yreka Gold Rush Days was fun!

We had such a blast at Yreka’s Gold Rush Days on Saturday! We came early to see the chili cook off. I was particularly interested in how the whole ‘cook off’ contest worked because I may want to enter next year. It looked pretty fun!

Some of our local food producers were set up on Broadway Street. I tasted just about every sample there was and I definitely have my own personal favorites, but they were all yummy!

We made our way up Miner Street and visited all the booths. There were some amazing crafters~everything from felted hats to fine wood furniture to beautiful pottery and art and many others.

The reenactors were in place in front of the the Franco American Hotel on Miner Street, dirt and all! There were occasional gun battles and various scuffles. They seemed to be having a great time and the crowd really dug it!

Broadway Street was lined with antique dealers. This seemed to draw a pretty good crowd. I picked up the coolest pair of chairs for my back yard ~ totally retro! There was even a calliope . I had completely forgotten about calliopes. What a neat addition to the event!

In the morning the Highly Paid Professionals played great music ~ a nice mix of country, bluegrass and Celtic music. Later in the day Donnie Fitzsimmons, one of our local djs, played crowd pleasing tunes and had some cute dance contests. The Macarena contest was hilarious! Our local Russian immigrant (many Yrekans may recognize her as the lady that turns to look behind her while she walks and occasionally cusses you out when she passes you on the street:) she even let loose and danced her heart out! What a sight!

I made it to the car show in Miner Street park just before it ended and got a glimpse at the local hot rods. Very fun!

This was a hugely successful event in my estimation. I’m so glad I went and just want to give kudos to the Yreka Chamber of Commerce for hosting such a fun event! Nice job Pete!

Thanks Debbie, the event was very well attended and we estimate around 600-800 folks showed up. Merchants were happy and look for more next year.
