Tomorrow is my favorite day! Tomorrow is the first day of school. Oh my heavens, how I love this day!
So this is what I find really interesting about going to school in Yreka. I don’t know if this little procedure is county wide, but in Yreka about a week before school starts the ‘class lists’ are displayed in the front of the school. I think it’s funny because it occurs to me as I’m standing in front of the big windows, straining my neck to see which teacher my child gets to torment for the the next 9 months that if I object for any reason, it’s basically too late to do anything about it - and likely this was the plan all along. But turn about is fair play and I suppose there’s no turning back for the teachers either!
As I drive by the school through out the week I see parents in the same posture I was in - neck strained, eyes squinted in careful contemplation of ‘the list’. kids ride up on their bicycles, with their friends to see ‘who they got’ and who’s in their class. “Like them, don’t like them, on noooo not her, yahoo so and so’s in my class, ugg he’s so mean, didn’t you have a crush on him last year?, NOOO!!!……” hee hee, don’t you miss those days? Me neither!!!
Oh bright yellow school bus, how I love the sound of your screeching brakes at 7:45 each morning, carrying my burden away like a big steel angel each weekday morning. Oh - bright yellow school bus - ride on, you crazy diamond - ride ride ride oh yeah…..
