Events in Tulelake

Yreka’s loss, Tulelake’s gain…. hopefully. Yreka canceled the Shasta Salute to America Motorcycle Rally a few months ago and there was quite an ado over it-see the post here. The Shasta Salute to America Motorcycle Rally packed their saddle bags and moved a few towns east to Tulelake who was quite willing to approve the needed liquor license.

August 28th thru Sept 1st you can jump on your hog and head over to the Tulelake Fairgrounds for an exciting weekend of adult fun. We are planning on going over, but aren’t partial to the adult events. I’m just interested in seeing the Veteran’s Traveling Memorial Wall. Watch for that report next week, hopefully.

Tulelake should have quite a boon this fall. Directly on the heels of the motorcycle rally is the Tulelake Butte Valley Fair - that will be some wholesome, family fun! I bet they have fantastic baked potatoes, curly fries and hash browns! The fair starts Sept 4th thru Sept 7th.

If you aren’t familar with Tulelake check out these websites to get a little more familiar with the area before heading over-

That should keep you busy! But if you need just a little more, here’s a very informative video about potato harvesting in Tulelake:)

I was sorry that the event had to move from Yreka because our little burg wasn’t cooperative! But, I am glad they found another place to hold their event! I am sure they will enjoy the area and Tulelake will probably benefit for years to come from our “mistake”!

Yreka needs to learn to be more flexible and allow events in town, they have rather squashed our cruise night and other things in the last few years… now other places are reaping the benefits! I am not sure I “get it”… the concerts in the park do well and people come out to enjoy them. Why not try other things too?!

About a year ago we tried to get the city to allow us to have a antique car (very early ones 1903, etc.) and vintage Airstream trailer show (combining two events) … the city was very reluctant to consider our request. We wanted it in the City Park on Gold Street & Miner… would have been open to the public for viewing. Needless to say we were discouraged, and looked elsewhere.

Claudia, I adore Airstream trailers!! I would have LOVED to see a show here. Airstream is one of the hippest retro collectables right now. I also love Vespa scooters (but my hubby won’t let me have one:(

Anyways…. I seems Yreka is not alone in being stunted economically by an uncooperative city government. Dunsmuir too is struggling with growth and vitality according to an article in this weeks Mt. Shasta Herald. At least we’re not alone…. wait, that’s not really comforting is it?

I love Airstream trailers too! We have a restored little 16 foot Bambi, a 1963. We use it every chance we get! Aluminitis is a real disease!

Now, Vespa scooters are very retro cool! Besides I imagine they get very good fuel economy because I know first hand they don’t travel very fast!

i’m really glad about you all loving those silver bullet death traps. the best thing about them is you cant bump your head on a sharp angle. anyhow, what we really need here, as an acceptable event, is this. THE METAMUCIL 500 RASCAL RACES.we could draw folks from all over the country for this annual fun filled event. i think even our administrati would have trouble finding fault with this. these electric mobile missiles could show us the way. down town. depend stations at every corner. lots of spin-offs too. cane throwing, gumming for apples, the list goes on. there would be lots of sponsers, and the proceeds could go towards our senior meal program. allison leal, are you out there?

Oh my Bill! Great idea!! ….. but what about the liquor license for the Carlo Rossi Chablis booth?!?
