Kathleen Popa

Kathleen Popa was in Yreka visiting her family and while on a walk with her husband peered into a Victorian home that was for sale and within weeks became a Yrekan and within a couple years became a published author. You don’t have to live in a Victorian to be a great author, but it certainly adds to the charm, especially when it happens to be in our little town!

I met Kathleen, had coffee, and visited with her for a short time. I asked her about getting published and she admitted that her experience was not typical in that it was not a tremendous effort as it is for many authors, but that her story was just what the publisher was looking for at the time and before she knew it it was done!

A cache is a little house on tall stilts that is used to store your ‘good’ stuff and protect it from predators. Kathleen Popa is further evidence that Yreka is a cache of talent! This little snowy cache is far from the desert which Kathleen portrays so beautifully in her first novel, “To Dance in the Desert” which is a touching story about a woman’s journey towards emotional and spiritual healing. Kathleen’s characters are created with such kindness and insight! In each character there seems to be something you can relate to in your own life.

The intrigue of Kathleen’s writing easily pulls you along from chapter to chapter. I zipped through this novel in a weekend. It was inspiring and helped me to consider and reconsider how I look at people, what it means to be a true friend and what it means to have faith that’s alive and exciting.

I’m looking forward to reading Kathleen’s second novel which was just released a few days ago titled “The Feast of Saint Bertie”. She will be at MacGregor’s Book Emporium on Thursday, September 18th at 7pm to read from her new book, sign copies and meet folks - I think there’s even going to be cinnamon rolls-yummy! I hope you all come out to support one of our own and share in her great success!

There are actually quite a few published book authors in Yreka and in Siskiyou County! Wouldn’t it be fun for everyone who has published to get together sometime… might hear some interesting stories! Way to go Kathleen!

I agree!! I know that Ms Lynns has done a nice job of bringing attention to some of our local authors - that’s how I found out about Kathleen Popa.

Thanks for the wonderful post, and all your kind words. And thanks, Claudia, for the high five. I love your blog. I hope to see you at MacGregor’s on the 18th.

Kathleen, Thanks! I will put the 18th on my calendar! Good luck with your newest novel!
