9/11

I’m having a hard time getting ready for work this morning as MSNBC is re-airing the broadcast of the 9/11 events in real time. It is just shocking to recall those events as they really happened. What a day.

I worked with a lady for a short time that was in NY when 9/11 occurred. She recounted her experience, managing to maintain her composure with the exception of moments filled with sobbing. It is hard to comprehend the magnitude of influence of this event. People are forever changed. Our country is forever changed.

These are the moments that make us realize the value of the sacrifice that our public servants willingly give ~ firefighters, police, and all the innocent people that perished in NY should be thanked, honored and remembered today.

Yreka has a wonderful flag program sponsored by the Lions club. They put up flags throughout town on days like these. A big thank you to them!

‘Twas a truly horrific event. To have something so devastating affect the country and bring folks to tears - even those of us so far away in California, Alaska, Hawaii; not to mention citizens of other countries who cried with us - is testament to the impact this event had. I can’t watch the replays. Call me soft, but it still chokes me up. I’ve never been to N.Y., don’t particularly want to visit and I don’t have any family or friends there. But it’s still a part of where I live, my country, my people.

With the election coming up, it’s easy to get a sense of “us” and “them” and feel the divide between citizens and ideals. Let’s not forget that today, it’s all “us”, no “them”.

Thanks for the tribute, Debbie.

I was pretty surprised by the re-emerging of emotions as I watched that replay of events. It truly is a dynamic and unpleasant experience.

Life is real. .. sometimes real painful… we just keep going
