Kiwanas is all about supporting kids and this annual event is always well attended in Yreka. The kids start at Jackson Street School and parade in their costumes to Miner Street Park for hot dogs and ice cream and then everyone reconvenes at the Broadway Twin Theater for a free movie.
I’ve always thought this was kind of an odd celebration mostly because it just seems too early to be doning those Halloween costumes. But the kids LOVE it!!
The morning started with some sprinkles so turn out was a little less than normal this year, but those that did make it out had a super time! About 15 minutes into the parade the rain stopped and by the time hot dogs and ice cream were handed out the sun was starting to shine.
My favorite costume was the Robot!!! I was happy to see that it’s ok to feed robots in the park (as long as it’s ice cream:) Robot won second place!
This was our song for the day! From a kid’s point of view it really sums it up nicely, don’t you think? Costume, parade, hot dog, ice cream, soda, awards, free movie - what more could you ask for?
