Via Magazine plugs Yreka

AAA puts out a magazine every 2 months called Via - AAA Traveler’s Companion. The September/October 2008 issue features Yreka as a weekend destination and describes it as a “scenic slice of Northern California”. Nice, huh? You can pick up a copy of Via at your local AAA office, that is, if your local AAA office is in Washington, Oregon or Idaho.

I’m excited that Yreka got a nice plug! Some of the local attractions mentioned in this short little ditty by Via writer, Peter Faret are the Village Grind, Silver Spoon, Lalos (in the photo), James Place Antiques, Natalee Thai, Best Western, Klamath Motor Lodge, Yreka Third Street Inn, the gold display in the Courthouse and the Heritage Home Tour.

All are worthy mentions although so many were overlooked, but beggers can’t be choosers, eh? And besides, that’s what we have siskiyoutopia for! Siskiyoutopia will have 229 posts published about our fair little county once I hit the ‘publish button’ on this one, and we’ve barely scratched the surface!

Hey! Look! A Contest!

In the mood for a little contest? What would you write? The best one page article (300-500 words) featuring your favorite Siskiyou County town wins a ’siskiyoutopia - gift box’, which is basically a grab bag of silly stuff that I think is cool AND your article gets published on siskiyoutopia! Tongue-in-cheek pieces and serious pieces are welcome - but serious stuff is really boring and you won’t win (hint hint) oh, wait, that wasn’t really a hint, was it?

Write it. Email it to- happyapplehead

Ok, I might bite. More info? Is there a deadline date? Write on our favorite Siskiyou County town… humm… gotta think about this one!

Deadline….. December 19th.

I can’t wait to read what you come up with Claudia! Do it. It will be fun!

Hi Debbie, regarding the Via magazine, I interviewed with the writer last winter and am glad to see it finally get published but…here’s where it gets weird…I went to the AAA office today to pick up a few copies for the office and looked through and didn’t see the article. Is there any chance I can get you to let me photocopy the piece?
thanks…loved your piece on the toilet, as an old sales guy I can tell you this, business gets done in all kinds of places not all of which are comfortable.

I’ll bring you my copy, Pete.
