I’m taking the ‘It’s Your Business’ class at COS through JEDI (Jefferson Economic Development Institute). We are learning about Marketing Research and last week we learned a little bit about Networking. I’ve learned a lot in the class. As a matter of fact I had a great opportunity, with the assistance of one of my classmates, to do some ‘networking’ during the class break last night.
As I was waiting in the ladies restroom for ‘my turn’ a voice comes from one of the stalls: “What class is going on in the main room?” (that would be our class).
Classmate: “Are you talking to me?”
Stall: “I’m talking to anyone.”
Me: “It’s the ‘It’s your business’ class.”
Stall: “Oh, it’s a business class? So are you learning about running your own business?”
Me: “Yea”
Stall: “So what’s it about?”
Me: “It’s about running your own business.” (Duh!)
Classmate jumps in saving my a*!!&: “We’re learning about marketing and other business principles and by the end of the class we should be able to write a business plan” (nice job, classmate)
Stall: “oh”
Classmate, going above and beyond, especially under the circumstances: “As a matter of fact Debbie here has a blog called siskiyoutopia.”
Stall: “siskiyoublogia?”
Me: “No (laughing now), Siskiyoutopia.” And here’s where last week’s lesson comes whirring back to me and with a knowing look to my classmate I say, “You know how everyone says there’s nothing to do in Siskiyou County? Well, there’s actually lot’s of stuff to do here and I write about that on siskiyoutopia.com. You really should check it out!”
Me and Classmate: “We’re going back to class now, k? Bye.”
I’ve never marketed to someone on a toilet before. I doubt I ever will again, well, on second thought, maybe I will. Talk about a captive audience!
So, on that note…. enjoy this little video by my favorite film producer Greg from Mediocre Films.
