Touring Scott Valley

While my folks were visiting last week we wanted to do some touristy things with them, so we took a trip to Scott Valley. Our first stop was Marble Rim Gallery in Fort Jones. We had such a fun time! This little gallery is a hot spot for local talent and a really fun place to shop. Kid, grandma, grandpa, mom and dad all found stuff we liked and had a great time shopping.

We went to the Etna Brewery in Etna for lunch. Oh man, I just realized that I implied in my last post that I don’t drink very often and now I’m about to tell you about me drinking more beer….. Oh well - I drank beer - again! Etna Brewery has this thing called a sampler. You get eight (8), count them!, eight little sample beers so you can decide which you like best! I like them all!! Soooo fun!!!

The Sampler

So I sipped (and shared) my little miniature beers while the ‘kids’ checked out the big brewery vats. Lunch arrived - holy cow!!! The food here ROCKS!!!! If you live in Etna, you are so stinking lucky!! They have burgers, sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads and it is all really really good!

We walked off lunch around Etna and checked out the shops. The one thing that you HAVE to do when in Etna is visit the Old Fashioned Soda Fountain!

Scenes of Etna

The soda fountain is inside the Scott Valley Drug Store. I couldn’t stomach an ice cream after all that beer, but I did try a Phosphate! It’s like a cherry soda - yummy! The rest of them had ice creams. The ’soda jerk’ was not a jerk at all, as a matter of fact she was totally darling!! I think they pulled this girl right out of another era or maybe it’s just the result of living in a charming, small community. Cute cute cute!!

With happy full tummys, we piled into the car and headed out of town to see the Etna Summit. If you haven’t been here, it is soooo worth the short drive. When you reach the peak the view is stunning! You can talk a walk on the Pacific Crest Trail and I hear that on a very clear day you may even be able to see the ocean from up here! Wow!

Etna Summit

We took advantage of some photo opportunities. We thought there was a sign that said ‘Pacific Crest Trail’ but it turns out the sign just says ‘Bicycles Prohibited on P.C.T.’ - oh well, close enough!

This was the perfect outing and if you’d like to copy us AND add a little extra bang to the adventure I’d suggest you do it in the next two weeks because there are some great holiday events to attend in Etna and Fort Jones.

What a wonderful day trip! It’s been awhile since we visited the valley; looks like it’s time for another visit. Great photos, and I especially loved the long alley with the lone kitty. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas! Kathy

Hi Kathy,
Thanks! I hope you are able to go to the craft fair. It’s supposed to be a good one.

Funny to me that you liked that cat photo. I almost didn’t include it thinking it was too ‘non-descript’ - Funny!

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve checked in here! You’ve been busy!
I love the Scott Valley and haven’t been in quite a while. It’s Steelhead season now, and I usually get over to the Scott River near Thanksgiving - but we just haven’t had time this year. I’ve got my growler all cleaned and ready to be refilled at the Etna Brewery too.
My wife’s the new Mayor here in Dunsmuir, so we’re now obligated not to miss the hometown events. We had our little Candles in the Canyon parade and tree lighting this weekend. So maybe we’ll get over to the Scott River in the next couple of weeks… I’m hoping!

Dunsmuir Dave! I’ve wondered what happened to you. You’re the first man of Dunsmuir now, huh? Congrats to your wife! You’re not “obligated” to go to the hometown events, Dave - you “GET” to go to all the hometown events! Lucky!! (said with a Napoleon Dynamite accent:)

Got any pictures? Don’t forget to check in once in a while.

Good luck fishing!

Ahh yes, thanks for the correction. I go to all the hometown events anyway, now it just carries a bit more importance - and my wife watches my beer intake more closely…

I promise to check in on your blog more often. It’s really some of the best of the internet.
