Frugal or just weird?

This in from our local Yreka walking tour guide and all around funny guy, Gerald Murphy:

Hi Debbie,
I think a lot of women will be pleased to hear they can make nice tube tops from men’s underwear as show in the attached photo.  That way you can get six tops for three bucks at Walmart.  Be careful about wearing used underwear, however.  Make sure you wash them before putting them on.  It pays to be safe. Jerry Murphy

You are so funny Jerry; however, this is ‘frugality gone too far’ in my opinion!  Although there may come a day when there is no such thing as “too” frugal.

We have done a few things in our house to cut back on costs.  We put up a little clothes line so we can line dry some of our laundry instead of running the dryer (put that darn wind that we get EVERYDAY to some use!).  One of my biggest sacrifices was no more beer or wine - too expensive and honestly I don’t miss it that much - just made me sleepy.

So what are you doing to save a little here and there in ‘these times’?

I save paper by not printing out emails from my boss at work. I save gas by walking to work. I save energy by turning off my computer at night and opening my windows in the late evening and early morning during summer.
Nice to have you back Debbie!

Hi David,
What a minute, aren’t YOU the boss??!! Silly!
BTW those are some good ideas….. I rode my bike to work…. once.

I save money by only spending on stuff I need. I shop at thrift stores and buy necessities based on what’s on sale. I turn off lights, compost and walk my neighborhood for exercise. I enjoy as much of the best things in life that I can cause as we all know they’re free!!

Bonnie, Your comment makes me think of that Beatle’s song -

The best things in life are free blah blaeh blehble (can’t remember the words) ….the birds and bees…. just give money - that’s what I want…..

hee hee

grow veggies!…plan meals ahead…stick to a list at the grocery (and never go in for just a couple things - live without ‘em)…SO GLAD that you are back!

Hey Tiffany - Yes yes yes - grow food!! we just ate peas with dinner tonight that i planted myself! so yummy!

I’m drinking MORE beer and wine. that way, i get sleepy, pass out. then i miss dinner, and i don’t use any gas driving anywhere. so, the earlier we start drinking, the more money we can save. seems pretty obvious to me.

Oh my word, Bill!! I am laughing so hard! You’re a lunatic:)

takes one to know one, eh?

I’m planting a larger garden this year and incouraging my friends to do the same. We all compare notes on how are gardens are growing and what new bug showed up today. We are thinking about pressure canner for the green beans etc. Any ideas on brand or type?? Wish I was there to eat peas with you.
Your Mom

awww, ‘my Mom’. She’s such a great mom. Now you all know where I got my ‘gardening’ genes from. My older sister has them too (in spades:)

Gardening seems to be the most popular trend for fighting the recession.
